Rangers legend Ally McCoist has made a charitable appeal on Instagram as the UK takes drastic measures amid the global health crisis.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s address on Monday evening put across the seriousness of the challenge which now faces the country, with everyone urged to stay inside for what is, essentially, a three-week lockdown.

Those working essential jobs, though, such as those in the NHS, are needed to carry out their duties, and McCoist is on board with a plan to ease the strain on Glasgow’s healthcare workers.

The club’s all-time top goalscorer took to his Instagram account on Monday to raise awareness for a fund which has been set up in conjunction with Glasgow Taxis, with the aim of helping to transport NHS employees to and from work during these difficult times.

Posting on his story, McCoist shared the link to the fund and wrote: ‘Support our NHS heroes. I’ve donated. If you can afford £5+, you can too, every £ helps.”

The 24 hour limit on the story has since elapsed, but the link to the fund is attached to his Instagram bio.

At the time of writing, the fund had raised £1,805 of its £10,000 target.

McCoist has been hailed for his hilarious use of the social media app since creating an account back in January.

He’s since built up in excess of 80,000 followers and clearly, he’s using his position in an attempt to do good at this unprecedented time.
