Rangers legend Barry Ferguson is the latest to get one over on the SPFL after their mishandling of the Covid-19 shutdown at the end of last season as he makes history with Kelty Hearts.
The club members’ body came under extreme fire from Rangers in particular for how they handled the end of season vote which unfairly relegated Hearts and Partick Thistle.
But the move also seen all playoffs scrapped from last season with Ferguson’s Kelty Hearts side feeling the brunt as they were denied a chance to enter the SPFL through the playoff.
The Lowland League winners would get that chance this year however despite havering from the powers that be in Scotland when the playoffs were given the go-ahead this season.
After downing Highland League champs Brora Rangers in the first playoff round, the Gers legend would take him team to face Brechin City.
Brechin held considerable resistance to the Playoffs being held and their fears were realised after a 3-1 aggegate defeat to Ferguson’s side.
Kelty – where ex-Gers defensive midfielder Bob Malcolm is also an assistant – would win the first leg 2-1 before winning 1-0 against 10-men Brechin.
Brechin had Rangers kid Chris McKee sent off in the match and the club have launched an investigation amid claims of homophobic language [Sky Sports].

However, the day would belong to Kelty Hearts who make history by making the SPFL for the first time and become club 42 ahead of next season in Scottish League Two.
Whilst Barry’s playing days are done, one of his family members continues to be linked to Rangers amid talk of a third bid from south of the border.
