Rangers legend given 20-year reminder by former teammate

Alan Hutton has been a long time retired and an even longer time away from Rangers and yet it’s crazy to think that he is three years younger than Allan McGregor.

The former marauding full-back enjoyed a successful career at the highest level playing in England and Spain as well as amassing 50 caps for Scotland.

A social media post on Instagram from the pundit congratulating Rangers legend Allan McGregor is a stark reminder of the latter’s incredible longevity.

Hutton and McGregor played together for Rangers as far back as 2002/03 although the young keeper spent most of his time on the bench for the Light Blues in their first season together in the senior squad.

There was no shame in playing second fiddle to Stefan Klos though.

It would take until a few seasons later before they would be regulars in the Rangers defence but now, some 20 years later, they can both put their feet up.

“20 years strong from boys to pensioners,” read Hutton’s post.

What path will Rangers legend Allan McGregor take next?

Hutton quickly integrated himself into media work with the BBC and more frequently with Rangers TV but McGregor is unlikely to follow this path.

The 41-year old has never been a fan of doing interviews even if fans enjoy his no-nonsense approach to answering questions, treating those that deserve it with disdain.

As a Rangers hall of fame member, Allan McGregor will always be welcome at Ibrox with Michael Beale pleading for him not to be a stranger.

With 700 senior appearances to his name in a glittering career, McGregor has a lot to offer and he hinted that he may have offers on the table.

A return to Rangers behind the scenes or sitting on the pundit couch with his old pal?

The choice is his, he deserves it.
