Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has been officially announced as the new manager of Alloa Athletic, just days after leaving Kelty Hearts.
Ferguson had been in charge of Kelty since 2018 but opted to leave after guiding them into the SPFL via recent playoff wins over Brora Rangers and Brechin City.

It was reported earlier this week that he was likely to take over at Alloa and his appointment was confirmed on Thursday afternoon.
The Wasps were recently relegated from the Championship and so the Ibrox hero’s mission will be to mastermind a promotion charge next season.
“It’s a club that you look over the years, the managers that have been here…they’ve always been good managers who’ve progressed in the game so once I met the chairman and saw the facilities, it’s the right club at the right time,” he said [Alloaathletic.co.uk]. “My sole aim in the next year is to try and get straight back into the Championship.”
“I’ve spoken to one or two [players]. I’ll get around all the boys in the next couple of days. There’s a good core of players already signed up.
“If I can go add a good bit of quality to go and help those players…the players already signed up are players I rate very highly. Hopefully, in the next week or two, we’ll see players coming in.”
Ferguson won 15 major honours as a Rangers player and also represented Birmingham City, Blackburn, Blackpool, Fleetwood Town and Clyde.
He had a stint as caretaker boss at Blackpool in 2014 and then managed Clyde from June 2014 until he resigned in February 2017 with the Bully Wee struggling in League Two.
In other news, an international boss has explained a Rangers star’s surprise squad absence ahead of a pair of imminent fixtures.
