Rangers legend Ally McCoist remains one of the most well-loved figures in Ibrox history.
The club’s greatest ever goalscorer, Super Ally bleeds blue and is one of the Gers’ most important historic figures with McCoist Rangers’ lead striker during the 9IAR era.
But in recent years, Rangers fans have gotten used to sharing Ally McCoist with the wider British public, the legendary Gers hero now one of the nation’s most well-loved broadcasters.
Now, that relationship with the British public has been recognised as the ex-Rangers manager collects an OBE for his services to the beautiful game and its coverage.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist awarded OBE
Alistair Murdoch McCoist was made an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) at Windsor Castle on the morning of 2nd October 2024.
The Rangers and Scotland legend has been snapped receiving the prestigious honour from his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle.
It’s a moment which is sure to have Ally McCoist beaming with pride as the Rangers legend reflects on a career dedicated to the Ibrox club and sports broadcasting.
The former Rangers number nine, assistant and manager remains one of the club’s greatest ambassadors and is a leading co-commenter on coverage of some of the biggest games in football.
Stretching back to his days with A Question of Sport on the BBC, McCoist has always had an affinity for sports broadcasting and we’re sure you’ll join us in being delighted for Super Ally this morning.
The Rangers legend was asked about collecting the OBE on TNT Sports Champions League coverage this week with Ally McCoist clipped smiling alongside Laura Woods, Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott:
“I have been awarded for whatever reason to whoever an OBE, and I’m going to pick it up at Windsor Castle tomorrow.”
A Rangers legend synonymous with Ibrox
There are few names more synonymous with Rangers than club legend Ally McCoist.
Winning an astonishing 20 major honours with Rangers as a player, McCoist made 581 appearances for the Ibrox club and scored 355 goals.
It’s a record which will likely never be beaten.
The Rangers legend then returned to the club as an assistant to the late, great Walter Smith in 2008, the legendary ex-Ibrox manager having a profound impact on McCoist the player, coach and man.
After three straight titles, in 2011 McCoist took over at Rangers as manager and had the unenviable task of guiding the club through it’s financial collapse, a contribution which is often under-appreciated by some supporters.
Whilst chaos enveloped the Ibrox boardroom, McCoist held the club together and it’s no exaggeration to say that without Super Ally’s leadership on the ground in this moment Rangers might well have ceased to exist.
Leaving as manager in 2015, McCoist has since carved out a career as a successful broadcaster and is a figure close to each and every Rangers fan’s heart.
Congratulations Mr McCoist OBE from everyone at Rangers News.
