When Rangers signed Jordan Jones, the resultant outcry from opposition supporters was at best over-sensitive and at worst quite malicious.
But most people will settle on just plain cringey.
Kilmarnock fans were raging that Rangers signed Jones on a pre-contract. It meant Killie would receive no transfer fee for their star man and Jones would move to the league’s most detested side.

It was glorious. But after Jones left comments on social media celebrating his dream move, the Kilmarnock Trust got involved and the winger was forced to apologise.
Fast forward a few days, and he’s scoring the winner against his future employers in a crunch Scottish Premiership match. You can’t make it up.
Whilst you can’t blame Jones for going about his business, that doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt. And you can’t help but feel it’s Rangers who’ve been left with egg on their faces at the end of all this.
The club remained silent during the entire thing and by-and-large are an innocent bystander in this embarrassing saga. All they did was sign a player within the rules of football.

As a result of the move, we’ve seen criticism of Rangers and unnecessary outcry, as well as our future player being made to feel guilty for celebrating a move to us. Not to mention the inspired performance of Jones to prove a point.
It’s been unfortunate for Rangers but perhaps the club needs to manage this better in future to help preserve our image amid these sort of transfer moves.
It’ll save us all the embarrassment…
