As the end of last season approached, it looked like Borna Barisic might not have a future at Rangers.

The Croatian international left-back was said to be one of three players linked with permanent moves away in the summer [the Herald].

But after seemingly working his way back into Gerrard’s plans he’s likely to be our first choice left-back next season – and he looks up for the cup.

Posting on Instagram, the Croatian looks fit, healthy and happy in a Rangers shirt. It’s a far cry from the dejected figure of last season.

Whilst there have never been any major doubts over Borna’s ability, there have been over his application.

Steven Gerrard was visibly frustrated when challenging the player’s injury record. Barisic looked shy and timid in games.

Contrast that with the power and commitment of countryman Nikola Katic, who seems to relish the physical side of the game in Scotland.

After struggling to both settle and impress, Barisic’s time at Ibrox looked like it was about to be up.

Signed for £1.5m from NK Osijek last season, it would’ve been a real shame.

A Croatian international and now seemingly the first choice at left-back for the World Cup finalists, there’s nothing to suggest Barisic can’t be an asset for Rangers.

A full pre-season might just be the catalyst for him proving it next season.
