Rangers youth Joao Balde has been called up to represent Portugal at Under-18s level.
Rangers signed Balde from Spartans two years ago and this stands as a big accomplishment for the talented youngster
The attacking midfielder himself admits he’s surprised at the call. But that won’t stop him doing everything to leave an impression.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Balde said: “I didn’t even know I was being watched by Portugal so I was obviously very surprised and happy to get this invite.
“Now I want to make a big impression here.
“Everybody has welcomed me and of course the quality of player here is excellent because only the best young Portuguese players get called up.”
It’s great to see the young player get called up to represent his country. And to a youth side of Portugal’s calibre. They are one of the most prominent footballing nations in Europe and the world.
Over the years the country has produced some of football’s finest talents and it’s testament to Balde’s potential that he’s been selected amongst their latest generation.
Even working with Portugal Under 18s boss Rui Bento will be of great benefit to Joao Balde. The former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon centre back played six times at the highest level for the country.
This is the latest piece of good news coming out of a very positive year for the Rangers Academy. Fans were delighted recently after the club’s U16s lifted the trophy at the Qatari ALKASS Cup.
