Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has been lauded by St Johnstone star and international teammate Ali McCann ahead of Wednesday night’s Premiership clash between the two clubs at Ibrox [The Courier].
McCann has impressed many with his performances at McDiarmid Park over the past season and a half and he made his senior Northern Ireland debut in 2020.

Davis is at the other end of his career. The 36-year-old has racked up over 600 club appearances, with 300 of those coming for Rangers, and is Northern Ireland’s record all-time caps holder.
He’s the perfect player to look up to and McCann has raved about Davis’ willingness to guide players as well acknowledging his importance to the Gers ahead of the Saints’ midweek trip to Ibrox.
“He has been brilliant,” he said [The Courier]. “He is great with everyone, particularly the younger players.”
“You look at his day-to-day conduct, which is excellent. By that, I mean how he is in training and how he is around the camps. He is the ultimate professional. If you can take any tips off him then you will stand yourself in good stead going forward as a footballer.
“He is huge for Rangers. I have only seen a couple of their other games but, from the matches against us, you can see how he builds the play. I am sure when we go up against them we will be pinpointing that to try and stop their play.”

Davis’ current Ibrox deal is set to expire at the end of the season but unsurprisingly, Steven Gerrard has made it clear that he considers the readying of an extension for the veteran as a matter of priority [Scottish Sun].
Remarkably, despite his advancing age, he’s started the Gers’ last eleven Premiership matches and as McCann has pointed out, he’s often the player who makes the league leaders tick.
His distribution is top quality while his vision is unparalleled amongst the other midfielders at Ibrox and by the end of the season, he looks set to earn a fourth top-flight winners medal as a Rangers player, a decade after his last.
Davis could soon have a new teammate to work with as the Gers have reportedly launched deadline day talks to sign an exciting attacker.
