On Thursday morning, Rangers confirmed the temporary departure of Robby McCrorie.
The 21-year-old joins Queen of the South on a season-long loan deal.

It’s the third stint away from Ibrox for the keeper, who has previously turned out for Berwick Rangers and more recently, Greenock Morton.
“We are delighted to have Robby join us and I’m looking forward to having him in the squad,” Queen of the South manager, Allan Johnston, told the QoS website. “He is expected to have a big future in the game and is well thought of at Ibrox and has gained praise from their current number one Allan McGregor.”
“Robby had some impressive performances for Morton in the Championship last season and won numerous awards when he was with Berwick and he is now starting to establish himself as the number one choice for his country at his level.”
“He will continue to train with Rangers one day a week which will benefit both him and us. He’s around six foot three, so we expect him to be commanding in the box”.

Verdict

The idea of loanees returning to Ibrox isn’t unprecedented. The likes of Andy Dallas and Jamie Barjonas returned in the middle of loan stints to turn out for the Reserves last season.
However, this extra detail in McCrorie’s contract is interesting. It shows that while the club realises his need for first-team football, they also want to keep him involved.
Regular sessions at Auchenhowie will prevent a disconnect and allow coaches to keep an eye on his progress.
Hopefully, he can get a full and successful season in the Championship. The youngster will hope that if he impresses this term, he’ll take a step closer to the Ibrox no.1 jersey.
