Rangers defender James Tavernier has been hailed by Livingston goalkeeper Shamal George amid rumours they could become Ibrox teammates.

The Gers headed to the Tony Macaroni Arena in search of another three points under Michael Beale.

Tavernier ended up being the star of the show, opening the scoring with a penalty – his 50th successful spot kick for Rangers – after a foul on Alfredo Morelos.

Tavernier rifled home a stunning second, arrowing a free kick beyond George and into the top corner of the Livingston goal.

Kemar Roofe added number three for Rangers, securing another win for Beale.

This game was all about Tavernier and he has now been praised by Livingston goalkeeper George.

George told Rangers Review that Tavernier’s set piece ability is ‘ridiculous’ having beaten him with two free kicks this season.

George added that Tavernier is one of the best in the league with set pieces and can’t even use words to explain how good Tavernier is for Rangers.

“He’s done it twice now against me with two free-kicks. Ridiculous,” said George. “That’s why he’s one of the best with dead-balls in the league. I can’t really explain how good he is,” he added.

Shamal George could join Tavernier at Rangers

George’s comments come amid suggestions that he could end up actually joining Tavernier at Rangers.

Football Insider reported last week that George is one of Rangers’ summer transfer targets as Beale considers signing a new goalkeeper.

Beale then noted to the media that he worked with George at Liverpool, adding weight to those rumours.

George, 25, came through the Liverpool ranks before heading to Colchester United in 2020.

The 6ft 3in stopper has excelled for Livi and may have done enough to put himself on the Rangers radar.

Whether George would really be the long-term successor to Allan McGregor or brought in as competition remains to be seen, but praising the Rangers skipper isn’t the worst way to get Gers fans on board.
