Rangers' James Tavernier leads the way in official Europa League list

James Tavernier scored twice last night against Europa League rivals Borussia Dortmund to secure a 2-2 draw and send Rangers through to the last 16 of the competition.

These two goals didn’t only influence the tie, but they propelled the Rangers captain into the 15th spot on the list of top scorers in this season’s Europa League, where he is the highest-scoring defender with three goals.

He is even ahead of fellow teammate Alfredo Morelos on the list, despite scoring the same amount of goals and featuring in six matches, although it must be the number of assists that separate them.

James Tavernier continues to set the bar even higher for Rangers

Being on lists like this won’t matter to Tav as long as Rangers are winning and continuing to progress in continental competition, but it proves just how much we depend on our captain.

Since his arrival in 2015, he has scored 75 goals and provided another 104 assists, a truly stunning record. Made even better by the fact he has been our mainstay right back for the previous seven years.

The Englishman has developed into a player that simply cannot be dropped, which young starlet Nathan Patterson, unfortunately, found out the hard way. At 30 he still has a good few years left in the tank and once his time at the Ibrox side is finished, will surely go down as a club legend.

With the club chasing success on three fronts, his goals will prove crucial in the title chase and if he carries on playing like this, then we have a great chance of retaining the league title.

The defender has had his critics, but I don’t think there is any doubt now regarding his status as a Rangers legend.

Meanwhile, former Rangers star Mikel Arteta is continuing Arsenals recent revival after a last gasp win over Wolves.
