Rangers have opened personal discussions with South African international Bongani Zungu, according to a leading journalist following the move.

South African football journo and Sheffield based sportswriter Joe Crann has written an exclusive with the Scotsman which suggests Rangers have agreed a £3.6m (€4m) fee with Amiens for the player.

This comes after Crann revealed Steven Gerrard “wants”  Zungu back on July 1st before claiming the Ibrox club had made an official offer later in the month [Scotsman].

The 4th Official have also spoken to sources within Amiens who confirmed Rangers’ interest in the 27-cap Bafana Bafana player.

Those sources allegedly claimed that Zungu was “mentally at Rangers already” and any deal centred around agreeing a price between the two clubs.

The move also comes after Rangers boss Steven Gerrard made a plea with the Ibrox board to sign more quality in the coming weeks in order to mount a title change.

“We need more,” said Gerrard [Evening Express].

“I have told the club that, I’ve been honest and open with what I feel we need.

“In terms of where we are at from a financial point of view, they are questions for other people – but I have made it quite clear that we need to add to what we’ve got.

“We need to add players into the 11 to make us stronger and then, naturally, that will make the squad stronger.

“At the moment, we still need to get people in the door.”

Rangers have signed Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey, Jon McLaughlin and most recently Leon Balogun during this transfer window so far.
