Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has signed Brazilian superstar Philippe Coutinho for Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona for the rest of the season, in the news that will further boost hopes that the Gers can keep star man Joe Aribo.
The moment Gerrard took over at Aston Villa, there were immediately transfer rumours as to what players the Englishman would want to sign from the Ibrox side, with names such as Kamara and Barisic being put forward.
The main attraction is Aribo, however, with the Nigerian international being in fantastic form this season so far, improving his consistency which was always a problem with the player.
The 25-year-old has been recently linked with Villa [GiveMeSport] and a reunion with the man that signed him for the Scottish champions.
The recent acquisition of Coutinho is news that Gers fans would have wished for, signing the Brazilian international will surely take up a huge chunk of Villa’s wage budget and with him in the side, there wouldn’t be much room for Aribo.
Gerrard has pulled off a masterstroke with the signing, undoubtedly helped by the fact the two played together for two and a half years at Liverpool and a new era starting at Villa.
With the recent sale of Nathan Patterson, Rangers are in a good position and any further sales should take place during the summer transfer window at the very earliest.
With the club pushing for glory on both domestic and European fronts during the second half of the campaign, then we will need to keep our finest performers, Aribo is crucial to any future success.
