Peter Lovenkrands has delivered his verdict on the title race following Rangers’ slip-up at Hamilton on Sunday [Glasgow Live].

The Gers were far from at their best at the Fountain of Youth Stadium and Ross Callachan’s 94th-minute tap-in cancelled out Brian Easton’s own goal to ensure the points were shared.

As a result, Steven Gerrard’s side’s lead at the top of the table was effectively cut, but they remain 21 points clear of second-placed Celtic, with the Hoops holding two games in hand.

Former Gers striker Lovenkrands thinks his old club already have one hand on the trophy but does feel Celtic have a chance to make the run-in interesting if they can put together a run of wins.

“They (Celtic) can keep plugging away and getting into a good bit of form,” he said [Glasgow Live]. “They’re creating chances and scoring goals again and they just need to try and put the pressure on Rangers.”

“I think the league’s done, Rangers will win the league but they can put pressure on. They’ve still got Old Firm games to come and you never know what’s going to happen but for them they just need to keep going, focusing on what they can do and it’s out of their hands really.”

Sunday’s draw in South Lanarkshire was unexpected and undoubtedly a slip-up from an out of sorts Rangers side.

Yet, the Light Blues’ unbeaten record is still intact and the poor performance is more likely to spark a positive reaction than a spectacular collapse.

With three of the Gers’ next four league fixtures coming at Ibrox where they have a 100% record this season, Gerrard’s players have a big opportunity to move within touching distance of the title by early next month.

If Rangers are to put together a run of wins over the coming weeks, they need a key player to lift his performance levels.
