Rangers have once again called for consistency in retrospective decision-making from the SFA after Celtic captain Scott Brown elbowed Aaron Tshibola in the Parkhead side’s win over Kilmarnock.
This comes after Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was retrospectively banned for three matches for a clash with Hibs defender Ryan Porteous, a situation not helped by a heightened media campaign.
Rangers have accepted the ban – because there’s not much else the club can do – but a visibly angry Steven Gerrard made loud calls for consistency in his most recent press conference.
“Consistencies. That is my answer, consistencies ,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“I think that is what every manager wants – a level of consistency and for every player or every incident to be judged in the same way so we find that level of consistency.
“I think that will really help the league going forward.”
The SFA probably didn’t expect a near-identical scenario to pop up with Scott Brown so quickly but now their bottle and their application of the rules will be tested.
Brown would elbow Tshibola – an incident which was ignored by Kevin Clancy – before going on to score the opening goal in a 4-0 win for Celtic.
Morelos would evade a red card before scoring the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Hibs last week.
Ignoring the disgraceful Sky Sports coverage of Ian Crocker and Andy Walker – who demanded retrospective action for Morelos but nervously skited over the Brown elbow – the SFA should be retrospectively punishing the Celtic captain.
Rangers have laid out their intentions with regards this sort of thing and if their latest tweet is anything to go by, the club intend fight this war a different way until there’s tangible change in the Scottish game by highlighting the inconsistencies in decision-making.
Rangers fans have saluted the club for their response with the Ibrox side needing to find creative ways to highlight the disparity in retrospective action:

The banning of Morelos remains a huge source of frustration for Rangers fans who’ll now be without the striker for three games.
Rangers fans were left fuming with what they see as a “corrupt” SFA who hold Morelos to a higher standard than other players.
