Rangers have only taken maximum points from three games in eight matches this season against the top six. That’s a measly win rate of 37.5%.
And the only team we’ve taken maximum points off is Hearts. We dumped them 3-1 at Ibrox in October and 2-1 in Gorgie a fortnight ago. The other came in a 3-0 win at Livingston at Ibrox last month.
We must step up our game against the strongest teams in the division. We’ve lost to Celtic, dropped four points against Aberdeen, stumbled against Killie at Ibrox and toiled in defeat on the plastic pitch in Livingston.
It’s quite simply not been good enough. And whilst Hibs aren’t quite top six yet, if they beat us tonight they’ll leapfrog Livingston into it.
Hibs match chance to change things
This is the kind of match that we must step up in if we’re going to challenge for the title. We’ve yet to face Hibs this season but they are traditionally tricky opposition. With Neil Lennon at the helm, it promises to be a stormy affair too.
It’s in these big matches where seasons can be defined. We’ve also had so many senseless slip ups against the bottom six too, but we need to start going toe to toe with Scotland’s strongest outfits.
That starts with Hibs tonight. If we can win, our tails are up. It also proves we can show up in big matches. It’s a vital confidence booster going into the three games before the break.
And if we nick it this evening, it begins to put a dent into the recent poor record against our rivals.
