Rangers fans will be taking all the omens they can get ahead of their Champions League trip to face Liverpool with the referee providing an extra special one for the support.
Clement Turpin might not be a household name amongst the Ibrox support but the whistler was the man in the middle on one of the most famous nights in Rangers’ European history.

The French referee took charge of the Ibrox side’s famous 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in Germany and that bodes well heading into the clash at Anfield.
The referee is set to take charge of the game of the highly anticipated Battle of Britain on Merseyside [UEFA].
Turpin is clearly highly regarded by UEFA, and if Rangers fans need any more pre-Liverpool omens, the referee also took charge of the Anfield club’s Final defeat to Real Madrid last season.
Clement Turpin to take charge of Rangers v Liverpool
A regular in French Ligue 1 since 2008, Clement Turpin has plenty of experience and whilst Rangers fans are taking what they can get heading into the match with the Premier League giants, let’s hope the referee is not the centre of attention.
Rangers know that if they don’t take anything from the game with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side then they can all but kiss goodbye to any Champions League hopes beyond Christmas.
Another defeat would also make Europa League qualification remarkably difficult heading into the final three games.
Rangers opened their first Champions League campaign in 12 years with a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Ajax in Amsterdam before eventually succumbing to Napoli on matchday two.
Despite a spirited performance, the Ibrox side crumbled once reduced to ten men and the Italians ran out 3-0 victors.
Rangers can take some solace in the fact Liverpool were resoundingly beaten 4-1 by Napoli on matchday one, with the Reds earning a late 2-1 victory over Ajax on matchday two.
Ahead of the Liverpool game, Rangers face having up to nine first-teamers ruled out of the side ahead of the clash at Anfield.
