Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and James Tavernier have been inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame as the club officially celebrates the opening of New Edmiston House.

The Gers have opened the new events space next to Ibrox stadium to a chorus of cheers as the club recognise three current Ibrox first-teamers for their contributions to the club.

It’s the first time players have been inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame since Fernando Ricksen, Lee McCulloch and Nacho Novo in 2014 and the three players have had different Ibrox journeys indeed.

But all three players have been recognised for their immense commitment to Rangers over the course of their Ibrox careers.

Three Rangers inducted into Hall of Fame

Allan McGregor joins the Rangers Hall of Fame against the backdrop of uncertainty in his Ibrox career, with the veteran stopper now 41-years-old and potentially set to retire at the end of the season.

There can, however, be no doubting the immense contribution of Allan McGregor at Rangers with the goalkeeper making more appearances than any other Ibrox star in European competition (109) and also winning 13 major honours and reaching two European Finals with the club.

Steven Davis is another veteran of both them UEFA/Europa League Final clashes in 2008 and 2021 with the Northern Ireland midfielder another whose future is uncertain.

But that was shelved on an exciting night in New Edmiston House where British football’s most capped male player (140) was recognised for his contribution to Rangers across two spells.

The timing of captain James Tavernier joining the Rangers Hall of Fame has been a surprise to some but no-one can deny the immense contribution of the right-back over the last seven seasons.

Joining whilst the club was in the Scottish Championship, Tavernier has been with the club through the highs and lows of recent seasons and was the title-winning captain when Rangers secured 55.

The Rangers Hall of Fame was first set up in 1999 and the names of those are celebrated on the famous marble staircase at Ibrox Stadium.

Initially set up by club legend John Greig and Sandy Jardine, inductees are considered in line with five criteria.

That is length of service given by the player to the club, total number of games in which they played, the honours one earned while playing at the club, the number of international caps which they won while playing for Rangers and any exceptional abilities that the player displayed during their time.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans are hoping for a Malik Tillman Celtic bluff.
