Rangers are set to land a £450k cash windfall after former Ibrox attacker Josh Windass moved from Wigan to Sheffield Wednesday.

Journalist Alan Nixon previously revealed that the Latics still had a bill outstanding on the English forward and that any transfer fee recouped for the player would head to Ibrox.

Wigan find themselves in a torrid state with the club entering administration last season and the resultant 12 points reduction seeing them relegated to League One.

Now, after signing on the dotted line at the Owls, Rangers look to have received a timely cash boost from Windass two years on from when he left the club.

The 26-year-old forward was in high demand in the English Championship this pre-season and Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly beaten another two clubs to his signature [the Star].

Garry Monk’s side kick-off their new campaign in the first-round of the EFL Cup against Walsall on Saturday and Windass may well be available to feature on time.

The transfer of Windass will also be the fourth transfer fee Rangers have managed to recoup for a player so far this season.

Rangers recouped £400k for the sale of Greg Docherty to Hull and £300k for the transfer of Matt Polster to the New England Revolution.

The Ibrox club also arranged the sale of Ross McCrorie to Aberdeen for a reported £350k but this is a structured deal which won’t see the versatile defender/midfielder join the Dons full time until next summer.
