Rangers get a positive injury update on first-team midfielder Tom Lawrence, who is preparing to return to training imminently.

According to the Rangers Review, the Welsh international is expected to be back amongst his Ibrox teammates after his latest injury lay-off.

Written by leading journalist Chris Jack, the injury update claims that Tom Lawrence could be in contention to come into Philippe Clement’s squad for the upcoming fixtures.

This comes after the player was once again sidelined following the 1-0 Europa League win over Real Betis, with the former Derby County captain only just returning from a near year-long lay off.

Signed last season, there were fears that Tom Lawrence was following in the footsteps of the perennially crocked Kemar Roofe in being an expensive name who couldn’t get off the treatment table.

Into his second season with the club, Rangers are yet to see the best of the attacking midfielder following that devastating lay-off due to what Jack describes as a knee injury.

Playing only four times this season, it’s not unusual for players to suffer niggles as they look to return to their best but you’ll forgive Rangers fans for holding their breath over his fitness.

Whilst Michael Beale appeared to put his Rangers eggs in the Kemar Roofe and Tom Lawrence basket earlier in the season, Philippe Clement has been a little more shrewd.

Suggesting Kemar Roofe will only return to the top team when he is fit enough to be available for selection consistently, one suspects the same logic will be applied to Tom Lawrence.

This Tom Lawrence injury update also comes after fellow Ibrox midfielder Nicolas Raskin was stretchered off the park in the victory over Hearts.

Rangers are still without several players due to injury but with Kieran Dowell reappearing on the bench, and Tom Lawrence close to first-team training, let’s hope the tide turns in the weeks ahead.
