Rangers flop Umar Sadiq, who has been linked with both Bayern Munich and Sevilla, suffered playoff heartbreak with Almeria on Saturday.

Sadiq spent the first half of the 2018/19 season at Ibrox on loan from Roma and had a dreadful time with the Light Blues.

He made just four appearances, failed to score and received a lot of criticism from supporters before heading back to Italy ahead of schedule.

The 24-year-old has come on leaps and bounds since then, though, and after an impressive stint with Partizan Belgrade in Serbia, he’s currently starring for Almeria.

Sadiq has netted 22 goals and notched seven assists since joining the Segunda Division club in October, with his performances reportedly attracting the attention of some top clubs.

In April, AS Diario linked him with a €30m (£26m) move to Bayern Munich, while Sevilla have also been credited with interest in the striker [Daily Record via Extra Futbol].

Sadiq’s fine goalscoring form deserted him at just the wrong time of the season, though, as he drew a blank in a two-leg playoff defeat to Girona.

Los Rojiblancos finished one position ahead of their opponents during the regular season, but they were beaten 3-0 in the away leg in midweek before drawing 0-0 at home on Saturday.

Almeria’s own match report suggested that a lack of precision in front of goal was a key factor behind their failings in the second leg.

With their fixtures now finished for the season, it will be easier for clubs to make a move for Sadiq and it would be a surprise if he was still playing in the Spanish second tier next season following all the speculation.
