Rangers have confirmed that the club has held ‘productive talks’ with a US consortium headed by 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh about a takeover at Ibrox.
Reports have suggested that the outline of a deal for the US backers to purchase 51% of Rangers has broadly been agreed but up to this point the club has remained tight-lipped.
49ers Enterprises are the backers of newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United and the conversation around the Rangers takeover has been going on in the background.
In a joint statement, Rangers and the US consortium have now confirmed the interest and suggested that a fresh cash injection into Ibrox could be imminent.

Rangers confirm ‘productive’ US takeover talks
In a statement to leading broadcaster Sky Sports, Rangers said:
”Rangers and its existing controlling shareholders are in productive conversations with the two lead members of the Consortium, Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group, about the potential for the Consortium to acquire control of the club and to inject additional capital.
“These discussions reflect a shared recognition of the importance of Rangers FC’s long-term direction, ambitions and management.”
The statement will raise excitement amongst Rangers fans with sweeping change set to blow through the club in the coming weeks and months.
Rangers have already appointed Kevin Thelwell as the club’s new Sporting Director with the Gers also yet to decide on a 20th permanent manager.
The Rangers squad is also in dire need of strengthening with years of mismanagement leading to a bloated and unbalanced squad with a distinct lack of leadership and quality.
Rangers board fire warning to Celtic with promise of cash injection
There is one line from the statement which sends a strong message to Old Firm rivals Celtic as Rangers look to restore the natural order in Glasgow.
Rangers have long been Scottish football’s traditional powerhouse but since the club’s financial collapse in 2012, Celtic have assumed a role of dominance.
Overtaking Rangers in total trophies this season (119 v 118), Celtic are on the verge of a sixth treble in nine years and will match Rangers’ record of 55 domestic crowns this season.
Next year will be a pivotal one in the battle between Rangers and Celtic it’s that line about injecting ‘additional capital’ which has Gers fans salivating.
The Ibrox club knows that cash is needed to bridge the gap between themselves and the Parkhead club with a sizeable summer of investment on the horizon.
