Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has spoken out amid the latest Scottish football COVID guideline breaches and praised his players for adhering to the protocol.
The Ibrox gaffer was speaking as Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli went for a short break to Spain, failed to quarantine upon arrival back into the UK, and played in the Parkhead club’s draw v Kilmarnock.
This followed on from eight Aberdeen players breaking lockdown rules to visit Aberdeen city centre pubs after a defeat to Rangers on the opening day of the season and two of them testing positive for COVID-19.
The Scottish Government have said they will consider pausing the season as a result, with the third round of fixtures due to be played tomorrow night.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard has warned that the season will not go the distance if players do not adhere to the rules.
“It is a concern,” said Gerrard [RangersTV].
“If mistakes continue to happen, there is no doubt about it, the football season will be cancelled and that’s not what anyone wants at Rangers, or throughout Scottish football.
“It certainly has, in terms of me being on that chat yesterday, the severity of the chat, [highlighted] how important it is that everyone behaves in the right way.
“We will remind everyone of our responsibilities. Up to now, everyone has done great here at Rangers and the medical department has been first class.”
Rangers will now eagerly await the outcome of the government meetings with SPFL representatives ahead of the club’s match with St. Johnstone at Ibrox.
