Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was asked about his views on Celtic travelling to Dubai for a winter training camp during the pandemic as the scandal engulfs the Parkhead club.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the trip “should be looked into” after pictures emerged on social media of the team sharing beer poolside in the United Arab Emirates [BBC Sport].
This also came after Neil Lennon claimed the side were away for some “R&R” ahead of the second half of the season, something which is not covered by sporting exemptions to Covid rules.
Nonetheless the SFA won’t be following up any investigation and Celtic will face the fire and fury of the media when they return from the Middle East this week.
When asked about the situation and Celtic, Gerrard quickly turned the conversation back on to Rangers and admitted “time will tell” regarding Rangers’ decision to wait at home.
“I can only talk from a Rangers point of view,” explains Gerrard [Sky Sports].
“We were told before a ball was kicked this season that there wouldn’t be any winter break so from that moment we decided we wouldn’t be trying to get any kind of break.
“Whether that be at any other part of the world, we decided we’d stay back in Glasgow and prepare for the next game from there.
“We only really focus on what we decide to do and our decisions and time will tell whether that’s the right or wrong thing come the end of the season.”
Rangers fans were left questioning the sensibility of Celtic’s trip to Dubai as they rearranged fixtures, jetted off mid-Pandemic and appeared to breach Covid guidelines.
