Rangers captain James Tavernier has heaped praise on teammate and talisman Ryan Kent amid those reported £14m links to Premier League Leeds United.
The Ibrox full-back was speaking to the press after reaching 250 appearances in royal blue in what was an assured, goal-scoring performance in the 4-0 win over Dundee United.
But whilst Tavernier’s own Rangers career was top of the agenda, the marauding Rangers captain singled out Kent for praise after the winger’s blistering start to the season.
Kent hit his fourth goal of the season in the Ibrox win over Dundee United as he carried the fine form that won him August’s player of the month award right into September.
Tavernier believes the award was more than deserved and paid tribute to a player fast-becoming the main man at Rangers.
“Ryan’s been terrific for us with his goal contributions and was rightly named Player of the Month,” said Tavernier [Scotsman].
“He’s coming up with the goals now and that’s the one area where we wanted him to get better. He gets in those attacking positions and we want him to be on the score sheet, want him to get assists.
“He’s doing that now and he’s been a real asset for us. I thought he maybe could have got a hat-trick against United but I’m delighted with how he’s playing and progressing.”
Tavernier’s comments come after Rangers reportedly knocked back a £10m bid for Kent from Premier League Leeds United earlier in the window.
As of yet, the Whites haven’t followed up reported £14m interest in the Rangers star but with the transfer window open until the end of October the Ibrox side face a nervous wait to keep the player.
Not that Kent is in anyway hankering for a move out of Ibrox.
The winger himself has paid tribute to the club and the fans as he reaffirmed his commitment to the cause at Rangers.
“I am in a really good position at the moment, I am enjoying my football and I am playing with a smile on my face, which is important,” said Kent [Herald].
“I feel that gets the best out of a player when he is comfortable and in a happy place.
“In terms of the interest from elsewhere, it is always nice to get interest from a Premier League club but right now I am in a good position and I am happy where I am.
“I am happy. I get to, well not under the current situations, play in front of 50,000 diehard supporters every week, play Europa League football and play at a good, competitive level.
“Right now there is no reason for me to be elsewhere.”
