Rangers fans’ worst fears come into focus after Liverpool boss’ outburst

Rangers fans might be on the verge of celebrating their first title in a decade, but that won’t stop them worrying about the future of the man who is set to bring them it.

Steven Gerrard and co are certainly reluctant to say anything is over before it is actually is but when Rangers do win a legendary 55th title it’ll be amongst the greatest in the club’s illustrious history.

Rangers is a club which requires broad shoulders and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has carried the weight of expectation in a way which, right now at least, feels almost irreplaceable.

But Anfield is Stevie G’s home and it may well be calling before long as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool begin to creak and – uncharacteristically – he begins to crack.

Gerrard has reiterated his commitment to life at Ibrox but it’s difficult to imagine the ex-Merseyside skipper turning down an appeal from his first love.

The challenge of defending their first title in a generation without their stand-out Ballon d’Or nominated £75m centre-back is proving one too much for a team out of sorts.

The challenge of steering them back on track in the high-pressure sack-a-minute Premier League appears to be taking its toll on a manager who is also not quite himself.

Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to Premier League frontrunners Manchester City over the weekend was another twisting knife into the side of the Reds and no-one has felt it more than Klopp.

This is the first time Liverpool have lost three home matches on the bounce since the 60s and in his post-match interview Klopp’s nervous exterior was very much that of a man under pressure.

The German got frustrated with Sky Sports interviewer Geoff Shreeves when asked if Liverpool can still win the Premier League after the match.

“I don’t understand you, the only thing you want to talk about is us becoming champion,” said a visibly irritated Klopp [Sky Sports].

“Have you ever been the best sports commentator in the world?”

The ex-Dortmund boss might have plenty in the tank having earned a sixth European crown for the club and a long-awaited Premier League title, but as Klopp begins to creak, Rangers fans might too.

One Liverpool supporter has also called for the Rangers boss to replace Klopp as the Reds find themselves in a difficult moment this season.
