A debate has been raging for the past week about who’s the bigger club, Rangers or Aston Villa?
The debate, of course, was sparked by Steven Gerrard’s shock decision to swap Ibrox for Villa Park after three and a half years in Glasgow.

Rangers supporters and others in Scottish football have pointed to history, trophies won and attendances to back up their side, while Villa fans and others south of the border have brought up transfer budgets and playing squad valuations.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst is a man who knows what constitutes a big club, having represented the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal during a very successful playing career.
Therefore, it’ll give Rangers fans great pleasure that the 46-year-old Dutchman referred to the champions of Scotland as a ‘huge football club’ in his first quotes to the club’s website following his appointment on Thursday.
“I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Rangers as the club’s new manager,” he said [Rangers.co.uk].
“I feel so lucky to be going to work with a squad which is in a great position on all fronts and largely has that experience of being winners.”
“I look forward to carrying on and enhancing the work that has been done already alongside Ross Wilson and the board of the club, and I’m grateful for the chance to work again at this huge football club.”

As someone who spent several years at Ibrox as a player, the magnitude of the role he has secured clearly isn’t lost on GvB.
He’s the man the fans wanted and he joins with the club in a great position – top of the league, in a semi-final and with a good chance of reaching the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
Here’s what Ross Wilson has had to say about the new Rangers boss.
