Rangers midfielder Lassana Coulibaly returned to action against Dundee at the weekend.
And it didn’t take him long to prove his worth, scoring in the third minute of the game as Rangers ran out 4-0 winners.
The athletic midfielder is a superb option for Rangers. Physical, hardworking, and a pretty tidy player, Coulibaly spearheads as many attacks as he disrupts.
He looks like he could potentially be the league’s signing of the season. But there’s one downside – Coulibaly is only at Rangers on loan.
Rangers tight-lipped on Malian’s future
Rangers and Steven Gerrard are giving little away when it comes to Lassana Coulibaly’s situation.
The Gers manager has however consistently praised the African’s influence at the club and on the team. Gerrard really sees Lassana Coulibaly as a massive part of his plans.
When asked about the long-term future of the player he refused to comment. When asked about the interest of potential suitors if he continues his good form, Gerrard simply said that comes with the territory.
Coulibaly was a relative unknown before Ibrox and Allen and Gerrard look to have unearthed a gem.
Western France or West Coast? Angers or R-Angers.
Coulibaly’s parent club Angers play in France’s top division Ligue 1.
They’re currently mid-table but the league in general has a lot more interest and a lot more money than the Scottish one.
Coulibaly was an academy graduate at Bastia and Angers paid just shy of £2m for his services only last season. He made 18 appearances for the club and looked a big part of their team. He’s also had nine caps for Mali.
Rangers are an exciting proposition for any player. The European run should also entice Coulibaly to stay in Scotland. That’s if it’s the player’s decision.
In the meantime, Rangers fans will be hoping the club inserted a future fee clause for the midfielder before his performances started putting him in the spotlight.
