The British ambassador to Portugal has sent a message of appreciation to Rangers fans and pledged to follow the club after they knocked local side Braga out of the Europa League.
Chris Sainty is the official Embaixador Britânico em Portugal and earned press in the wake of Rangers’ 1-0 win in the Iberian nation by tweeting his congratulations to Steven Gerrard’s side [Sainty].
But such has been the response of the Ibrox support, Liverpool fan Sainty has decided to “henceforth take a close interest in the club’s fortunes”.
As a result of this tweet ⬇️ I seem to have acquired some @RangersFC followers 👍. Pleasure to make your acquaintance ladies and gents. I will henceforth take a close interest in the club’s fortunes. Can’t claim to be a lifelong fan but I am a huge admirer of your manager 👏🏼. https://t.co/L6qNzqs4qB

In a rousing message on Twitter, Sainty admits that whilst he hasn’t followed Rangers for long, he has followed Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.
The Rangers support’s response to the politician’s tweet clearly struck a chord with the British ambassador so much that he’s taken an interest in the club.
It’s not gone unnoticed by the Rangers fans, who’ve been welcoming the government official to the party on Twitter.
Here are just some of the messages the club’s supporters have been sending:

I did the Liverpool tour last year, my wee man had his Rangers top on, every steward/employee kept repeating to him that Stevie G was only on loan to us ….👍🏻

Government officials aren’t the only ones who have turned their attentions to Ibrox courtesy of Steven Gerrard.
Former Anfield teammate and Germany international Dietmar Hamann most recently declared that he’s been following the Ibrox side ever since Gerrard took over [BT Sport].
