Some Rangers fans have read into Steven Gerrard’s latest comments on Connor Goldson, believing the defender will start against Ross County, despite his costly midweek error against Hamilton Academical.
As quoted by the Rangers FC Twitter on Friday afternoon, the Gers boss revealed that the defender had apologised to his teammates after he was caught in possession on the edge of the box by David Moyo, who promptly poked a finish past Allan McGregor.
“Connor apologised to his teammates after the match and that shows me someone who is honest enough to admit their mistakes,” said Gerrard.
“He has stood up to the challenge since coming here and he held his hands up after making a mistake.”

Rangers failed to fight their way back after the goal and eventually succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.
Other defenders have paid the price for similar errors by being dropped from the team.
George Edmundson was at fault for a Hamilton goal during a 4-1 away win in the Scottish Cup in February and subsequently sat out of the trip to Kilmarnock a few days later.
His replacement for that game, Nikola Katic, then had a nightmare outing against St Johnstone late last month and was replaced by Edmundson for the Europa League Round of 32 clash away at Braga.
Goldson has been the constant throughout this chopping and changing.
He was superb in Portugal, but he’s struggled at times domestically, with the Englishman also at fault for Kilmarnock’s winner at Rugby Park in mid February.
Many Bears think it’s time for him to have a spell out of the side, but based on how Gerrard spoke about his vice-captain, believe he’ll be retained in the starting XI for the trip to Dingwall at the weekend.
Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:
That’s him starting on Sunday as usual then

Goldson has been a consistent perfomer but has made some brutal mistakes this season and goes relatively unpunished.
Where as Edmundson makes a mistake- Dropped
Katic makes a mistake – Dropped
Helander makes a mistake – Dropped.
