It was a difficult week for Rangers skipper James Tavernier.
In Europa League action on Thursday night, his defensive errors played a major part in the squad returning to Glasgow empty-handed.
No doubt already disappointed with himself, he then had to face a hysteric backlash with a section of the support calling for him to be dropped and/or stripped of the captaincy.
Thankfully, sense prevailed, and Steven Gerrard stood by his man [Scottish Sun].
On Sunday afternoon against Hamilton, Tav continued with the armband at right-back and bounced back with a strong showing.
His biggest contribution of the day came just after the half-hour mark when his stunning whipped cross from the flank picked out Connor Goldson, who put the Gers 2-0 up.
More generally, the skipper was tidy both in attack and defence, contributing to another clean sheet. That’s eleven from his 18 appearances this season [Soccerbase].
Suddenly, things are looking rosy again.
Heading into the international break, Rangers are top of the Scottish Premiership, safely through to the League Cup semi-final and locked on three points with all the other teams in Europa League Group G.
That’s not bad for a team with a captain some maintain isn’t fit to wear the armband.

When Tav took to social media to mark the Accies win, he received plenty of support from fans clearly conscious of what the 27-year-old has gone through this week.
It took courage to come back out and play as if nothing had happened and for bouncing back in style, he deserves praise.
