Rangers fans have been left stunned after a photo of Jordan Jones posing with a fellow England fan near Wembley emerged on social media on Sunday.

Jones is back with the Gers after spending the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland.

He’s contracted until 2023, but his Ibrox future appears to be hanging in the balance.

He played 45 minutes in each of the Light Blues’ opening two pre-season friendlies at Partick Thistle and Tranmere Rovers but didn’t impress in either outing.

With Steven Gerrard issuing a warning to those who are currently underperforming following a 1-0 defeat at Prenton Park [RangersTV], most fans expected the likes of Jones to be keeping their heads down and giving themselves the best chance of being involved in Saturday’s fixture against Arsenal at Ibrox.

However, instead, he attended England vs Italy on Sunday, posting a photo taken outside Wembley to his Instagram story hours prior to kick off.

The Gers winger then confirmed his attendance at the game itself by posting footage of the spectacular pre-match show.

After a fan account shared the initial image on Twitter, many supporters expressed their disbelief and disappointment.

The entire playing group were probably given a day off after the Tranmere friendly and clearly, this isn’t the same as the Covid restrictions breach committed by Jones and George Edmundson back in November 2020.

However, the fact that a player was in and around such extremely large crowds both inside and outside Wembley in the middle of pre-season will surely concern the powers that be at Ibrox.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Bears on Twitter:

In another potential blow for Jones, Steven Gerrard has hinted that a fellow fringe winger is in his plans for 2021/22.
