Rangers supporters are split down the middle over Ryan Kent’s performance against Celtic yesterday.

The on-loan Liverpool winger put in a mainly defensive display as he tried to contain Celtic’s Kieran Tierney. This meant that the wide man wasn’t able to show much of what he’s best at in going forward.

The game was ultimately lost 1-0 at Celtic Park, with Kent’s influence on the contest minimal. But that wasn’t for the want of trying however, as the youngster showed terrific energy to track back.

Therefore, a lot of Celtic’s openings down the left-side were neutralised thanks to his performance. Equally, however, supporters have taken to social media to debate on what Kent brings to the side.

Here’s a look at the best of the mixed reaction on Twitter:

Overall, Kent’s performance was a satisfying one for himself when he looks back on it. He did more than most to try and halt Celtic’s momentum, and did his best to put the shackles on Tierney.

Subsequently, supporters were disappointed that they didn’t see enough of him going forward. But that wasn’t Kent’s own doing. Instead, it was down to the defensive and negative tactics deployed by the manager throughout the match.

The on-loan Liverpool man had no choice but to defend and try to ensure Rangers kept the score at 0-0. There was hardly one occasion where the little winger was able to stretch the Celtic back-line – saying a lot about the tactics used.

When Daniel Candeias came on, he did have more attacking endeavour. But this was mainly down to the fact Rangers had decided to come out and attack for the final 10 minutes.

Kent certainly has quality in his locker, and deserves the chance to show that in the coming weeks.

Next up for Rangers is a home game against Dundee at Ibrox in two weeks.
