Rangers fans split as reports link Gers to Premier League wonderkid

Rangers have been linked with a loan move for Chelsea wonderkid and former Academy talent Billy Gilmour ahead of the January transfer window.

The Scottish Sun are claiming that the Gers have made an “approach” for Gilmour, who made his first start of the season for Chelsea in a Champions League draw with Krasnador.

According to that report, any move for Gilmour could hinge on Chelsea completing a £60m move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice but the story has since gone into overdrive.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist isn’t buying the claim that the club could be moving for the 19-year-old, who obviously cut his teeth at Ibrox.

Whilst Super Ally rates Gilmour, he believes that the midfielder is that good he’ll already get enough minutes at Stamford Bridge.

This is a view backed-up by talkSPORT host Jim White, who rubbished the story this afternoon.

White believes that Chelsea have no plans to loan Gilmour to Rangers – or anywhere else – because “he’s a big part of the plans at the London club”.

This hasn’t stopped Rangers fans discussing the possibility of the talented young midfielder making a triumphant return to Ibrox.

Here’s how the club’s fans reacted to those links to Billy Gilmour on Twitter as the January transfer window approaches:

Gilmour never played for Rangers but he was widely considered to be amongst the club’s greatest ever Academy talents prior to his move to Chelsea in 2017.

If Rangers do move for the former Gers wonderkid – what does it say about the future of an Ibrox midfielder being heavily linked with a move down south?
