Some Rangers fans have railed against broadcaster Sky Sports for their coverage of a “serious” incident involving Alfredo Morelos and a Ross County star just before halftime in the club’s 4-0 win in Dingwall.

The Gers trounced the Staggies in emphatic fashion after breaking their resolve through Kemar Roofe midway through the first half.

Rangers would take that 1-0 lead into the half-time interval, but the match was overshadowed by an incident which caught the eye before the interval.

Rangers stars James Tavernier and Connor Goldson, as well as manager Steven Gerrard, remonstrated with the officials at half-time over comments allegedly made by someone in the Ross County camp.

Whilst it is not clear at this stage what these comments were, they clearly upset the Rangers team and bench with Steven Gerrard describing the allegations as “serious” after the match.

Iain Vigurs was shown a yellow card for a nasty lunge on Morelos right on halftime, the Colombian sensing the challenge and managing to avoid the brunt of it during the match.

Something was then allegedly said by Ross County star Michael Gardyne with Morelos on the ground before being raised by Steven Gerrard and some of the Rangers players and the ex-Celtic star being booked.

Both managers discussed the incident after the match.

“I only heard what my own players were saying, I didn’t hear what came out of the Ross County player’s mouth,” said Gerrard [Sky Sports 06/12/20].

“But what I was hearing from my own players is a serious thing and it’s for Ross County and the officials to deal with.”

“I can’t confirm or deny anything at this stage but what I do know is what the referee has booked him for, but I’ll probably have to get to the bottom of that and find out what’s been said,” Ross County boss Stuart Kettlewell told Sky Sports.

“If there is something of a serious nature then we’ll deal with it as a football club.”

However – despite the reaction of the Rangers camp – the Sky Sports coverage chose instead to focus on Morelos’ reaction at half time, but where more sympathetic at full-time.

This is something which caught the eye of the Rangers support on Twitter as they watched their side romp to a comfortable victory in the Highlands:

Whatever happened, Rangers star Morelos will once again be disappointed that he never managed to score as James Tavernier, a Callum Morris own goal and a Jermain Defoe strike wrapped up the points.

But the result was the most important aspect of the day as Rangers picked up a 4-0 win away to Ross County to go 14 points clear in the league.
