Rangers fans have criticised outspoken pundit Michael Stewart for his comments on BBC Sportsound regarding the racist abuse aimed at midfielder Glen Kamara.
Stewart is widely regarded as having an issue with Rangers which goes beyond the footballing with many Ibrox supporters feeling he holds a bias against the club.
This – many believe – was evident once more as he made some outrageous claims regarding the incident on BBC Radio Scotland.
“Without trying to back away from the issues, I’m slightly uncomfortable with going full steam ahead when we don’t know definitively what’s happened,” said Stewart [Scottish Football Podcast 19/03/21]
“UEFA have to have an investigation, we’re proceeding on the assumption that there was a racial incident.
“I know it’s allegations, but we assume that this has happened last night.
“Earlier the season there was an incident up at Victoria Park, and they were being hung, drawn and quartered before we actually knew what was going on.
“It’s a serious point in that we have to allow the process to carry itself out before we reach the conclusion.
“IF it transpires that something racist was said to Glen Kamara, then 100%, it is outrageous, just equally outrageous as any other discriminatory comments being thrown out there.
“I’m just slightly uncomfortable and uneasy with proceeding ahead with one side saying it didn’t happen, one side saying it has happened.
“We need to allow UEFA to proceed, and the difficulty is that when it’s like that, how do we form a definitive answer?
“It looks suspicious, and your instinct is to say he’s racially abused Kamara, but I’m slightly uneasy with proceeding ahead before UEFA come to a conclusion.”
Wow – imagine being this bitter?
Of course Glen Kamara has now come out to clarify what was said and this sort of attitude from Stewart undoubtedly silences the voices of those who’ve been abused this way.
It is an embarrassment to the national broadcaster that they continue with this shill – can you imagine if this was said south of the border?
The BBC should be ashamed of giving the pundit a platform to come off with this rubbish regarding Kamara with suspicions very much evident regarding his motivations.
Much of this is because it’s not the first time Stewart has questioned allegations of racism coming out of Rangers.
The no-mark former midfielder was suspended last season for accusing the club’s former PR chief Jim Traynor of fabricating stories of racism levelled at Alfredo Morelos [Glasgow Times].
The entire thing has obviously upset Rangers fans who’ve jumped to the support of their midfielder and lambasted the pathetic comments of one of the nation’s own broadcasters:

The entire situation is a disgrace as Slavia continue to fight back against the claims and even claim they’re set to raise criminal charges against the Gers midfielder.
Rangers star Kamara has not backed down however and his stirring statement as such comes just as Slavia fans plunge new depths.
