Jermain Defoe has come in for plenty of praise on Twitter following an SPFL tweet.

The league association released footage of each and every one of the striker’s nine league goals so far this season.

He’s played second fiddle to Alfredo Morelos in terms of playing time but has looked razor-sharp when he’s got an opportunity as he looks to help the club to silverware and earn a permanent contract [Sky Sports].

Alongside the clips of the goals, the SPFL account asked if fans were backing Defoe to claim the ‘Tartan Boot’ award for the league’s most prolific player.

Alfredo Morelos won the 2018/19 award with a total of 18.

It just shows how strong Defoe’s start to the campaign has been, that he’s already halfway to that tally after just eight matches.

Yet, it’d be a monumental achievement to still be in front at the end of the season, considering he is effectively the backup centre-forward.

Some Bears are backing the veteran to go all the way, though, and even took the opportunity to poke fun at Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard, who is currently on five goals but has been bigged up by rival supporters after recent form for France U21s.
