Rangers fans have sent messages of support to former Ibrox favourite Daniel Candeias on Twitter after he was pictured back in training with Genclerbirligi.

The 32-year-old left the Gers last summer after two years in Glasgow in favour of the promise of regular playing time in the Turkish Super Lig.

Controversially, football in Turkey continued for longer than almost everywhere else in Europe amid the global health crisis with the country’s top-flight not halted until 19 March.

Gencler’s last fixture was a 1-0 defeat behind closed doors at Denizlispor a few days prior to the suspension but Candeias and his teammate are now back in training.

The Turkish Football Federation have announced that the Super Lig is due to return on 12 June, with eight rounds of fixtures remaining in the campaign.

Despite being in 12th spot in the table, Candeias and co are not yet safe from the threat of relegation, given that they are only three points clear of the relegation zone.

However, a full month of training before the restart should be enough to get the former Ger back up to speed to finish the campaign positively.

The industrious wide player was a strong fan favourite during his time at Ibrox, so it’s no surprise that plenty of Bears wished him well after he posted the training picture on social media.
