Rangers fans revel as red-faced journo deletes “fantasy land” striker tweet

Rangers fans have been rejoicing as the club signs Kemar Roofe, but a journalist who described the interest as “fantasy land stuff” hasn’t been quite so chipper.

The Ibrox support dragged up some old tweets by journalist Ross McCafferty who suggested that the notion Rangers would move for Roofe – who cost Anderlecht a reported £7m – was inconceivable nonsense.

McCafferty scrambled to delete the tweets but as we’ve so often seen, on Twitter there can be absolutely nowhere to hide.

In fairness to the journalist, McCafferty conceded defeat and held his hands up to the gaffe.

But that didn’t stop plenty of Rangers fans revelling in the statement which so confidently claimed a move for Roofe was so ambitious that it was in the realms of fantasy.

There was plenty of gloating as Rangers fans didn’t let up on McCafferty after Roofe signed on the dotted line in Glasgow.

Even if some gave the journo his dues for holding his hands up and accepting just how much of a bold cock-up the tweet was.

Rangers signed Kemar Roofe on one of the busiest transfer days of the club’s recent history.

The Ibrox side also snapped up Cedric Itten from Swiss Super League runners up St. Gallen in an impressive double forward swoop.

The Scottish Sun is claiming that Roofe signed on for a fee of £3.5m whilst Itten joined the ranks at Rangers for £2.5m.
