Rangers fans have responded to a plea from Dave King with 700 signing up to become Club 1872 legacy members on Wednesday.
The former Gers Chairman has agreed a deal to sell his shareholding to the supporter’s group, with the aim of handing over considerable control to fans so that the club’s best interests will always be protected.

Club 1872 have three years to raise the required funds, but they will be able to buy King’s shares at a cheaper price should 20,000 legacy members come on board within a year.
“I have absolute confidence that Club 1872 is the right vehicle for me to work with to advance supporter shareholder ownership – both now and in the future,” said King [Club1872.co.uk].
“I would urge Rangers supporters to join Club 1872 today and ensure that the events of 2012 can ‘Never Again’ be repeated.”
It was an impassioned plea from the former Chairman, and hundreds of supporters have responded with action.
On Tuesday night, Club 1872 issued an update on Twitter calling for patience as their website was struggling to cope with the volume of traffic.
Then, on Wednesday evening, they confirmed that 700 Legacy memberships had been taken out on that day alone.
While many supporters have outstanding questions regarding the specifics of the process and what it will mean for Rangers going forward, it’s clear there’s a strong appetite amongst the fanbase to gain more control over how the club is run.
The £15.9m loss shown by the annual report proves that there’s plenty of work still to be done at Ibrox, but with a playing squad full of valuable assets and a board that’s willing to cover funding gaps in the short-term, the club appears to be in a relatively stable position.
