Rangers fans have reacted on social media after the club issued a major update ahead of the visit of Hibernian in the Premiership [Rangers.co.uk].
It’s first against second at Ibrox on Sunday, with the champions and league leaders taking on one of only two remaining unbeaten sides in the division.
Not only is it a high-profile fixture, but it’s the club’s Armed Forces Day, which always adds to the atmosphere.
However, there’s been plenty of stress for fans in the run-up to the match due to confusion regarding vaccine passports.
Proof of full vaccination was due to be required for entry to nightclubs and big events from 1 October but after a number of issues, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed a grace period, meaning no businesses would face ‘enforcement action’ until 18 October [i news].
On Wednesday, Rangers issued an update to supporters, which stated that as Sunday’s clash with Hibs would still be a ‘test event’, all supporters wishing to attend would have to be fully vaccinated, unless exempt, and bring proof of their vaccination status.
However, on Friday evening, the Gers issued a fresh update following further talks with the government, confirming that no supporter would be refused entry for the game for failing to present a vaccine passport.
The club also apologised for any inconvenience caused by the confusion.
The change has come too late for some fans, who have already sold their tickets, and plenty fumed at the government for their handling of the situation.
Many were delighted with the update, though, which ensures a full house for an important top-of-the-table clash.
