This afternoon, a Sky Sports report broke the news that Jermain Defoe is set to join Rangers.
The 57-capped England international joins the Gers on an 18-month loan deal. Two release clauses are included, which can be triggered this summer or in January 2020.

Gers fans were mainly concentrating on getting Steven Davis this week. Therefore, this comes as a huge bonus.
Defoe is a proven goalscorer. 162 strikes in 496 Premier League appearances tell you that.
He has also succeeded at international level. In fact, he boasts an impressive 20 goals for the Three Lions.

Steven Gerrard confirmed last month that the Gers were in the hunt for an additional striker. Few could have hoped for such an accomplished marksman, though.
As the news was announced, Rangers supporters rejoiced on Twitter.

This move seems to have got unanimous approval amongst the Gers faithful.
Certainly, it is a major statement of intent from the club. Particularly, as Defoe commands £65,000-a-week at Bournemouth.
However, perhaps as we speculated this morning, the England international is willing to take a financial hit in order to work with his former teammate.
Finally, this could be the man to take the pressure off El Buffalo as Rangers go all out, for number 55.
