Rangers fans have rejoiced on social media after veteran striker Jermain Defoe was pictured back in training following an injury absence [Rangers FC Twitter].
The 37-year-old striker has been sidelined by a calf injury since 29th January, but a recent Instagram post hinted he was on the comeback trail.

Steven Gerrard claimed on Friday afternoon that Defoe had an ‘outside chance’ of making the squad for Saturday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against Hearts [RangersTV].
Then, just a few hours later, the RangersFC account tweeted an image of the player smiling and taking part in training.
It’s a timely return for the England international, who has missed the Gers’ last eight matches.
That’s because while Alfredo Morelos is back for the trip to Edinburgh, Florian Kamberi is cup-tied and therefore, unavailable.

If Defoe is deemed fit enough for the eighteen, then he’ll provide much-needed attacking back-up from the bench.
The Gers have failed to win on their two previous visits to Tynecastle this season and they need all the firepower they can get if they’re going to reverse that trend and make it to a Scottish Cup semi-final.
That’s why plenty of Bears were excited by the image and expressed their delight on Twitter.
