Rangers fans react to starting XI v Lyon, one notable absentee

Rangers have announced their team for the hotly anticipated friendly match against Lyon – with one major exclusion.

Although it’s only a friendly, the main absence in the side is that of the one and only Allan McGregor.

New summer signing Jon McLaughlin lines up in goal as competition for the Ibrox number one jersey heats up this season.

Andy Firth is also named on the bench which would suggest the big stopper could be out with a knock.

The rest of the team is pretty much as expected with the exception of George Edmundson partnering Connor Goldson at the back.

Big Swede and £3m signing Filip Helander has been working his way back to fitness and perhaps this match has come too soon for his recovery.

Borna Barisic and James Tavernier are the two first-choice full-backs, whilst a midfield trio of Davis, Jack and Aribo will be asked to stake a claim for a first-team shirt.

In front of them, Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent will supplement Alfredo Morelos in attack as the famous Glasgow Rangers kick off their pre-season preparations.

Here’s how some of the Ibrox faithful reacted to the lineup on Twitter:

Rangers are set to take on Lyon as part of the Veolia tournament with a match scheduled against Nice this coming Saturday at 5:15pm.

It’s the club’s first televised match since the 3-1 Europa League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen all the way back in March and after 100+ days, the Rangers are finally back.
