Rangers fans have responded on social media after the SPFL opted to reject a request from St Mirren to postpone their next two fixtures.
St Mirren are scheduled to take on Celtic tonight (Wednesday) before facing Rangers at Ibrox.
A Covid outbreak has hit the Buddies hard, though, leaving manager Jim Goodwin short of options.
Initially, the Paisley club decided against requesting the postponement of their matches, despite reports suggesting that they had only 10 senior outfield players available [Scottish Sun].
However, further positive cases emerged on Tuesday and after their pre-Celtic press conference was pushed back twice, it was eventually cancelled and a statement was released.
St Mirren confirmed that they had formally requested postponements, as they would be ‘unable to field a team for either match’.
It seems that the SPFL aren’t convinced that is the case, though, as a spokesperson confirmed to the PA News Agency a short time later that the request had been rejected [Clyde 1].
It’s a boost for Rangers as they will take on a very understrength Buddies side on Boxing Day.
Yet, the fixture remains in doubt.
That’s because Premiership clubs such as Celtic and Hibernian have called for the winter break to be brought forward so that matches don’t take place while there are severe restrictions on attendances.
It’s believed that as many as ten are in favour of shifting the break, with just Rangers and Ross County against [Daily Record].
For now, though, the Boxing Day clash is on and many Bears are delighted.

Meanwhile, in a transfer twist, a Rangers loanee is reportedly in advanced negotiations to seal a switch to a new club.
