Paul Gascoigne responded to the SFA with a naturally tongue-in-cheek comment and video earlier today. The Gascoigne response was a typically funny one from a typically funny guy, and caught everyone a little by surprise. Even though it perhaps shouldn’t have.

And Rangers fans are understandably over the moon with it.

Th ex-England hero posted a video of his famous goal in the 2-0 win over Scotland at Wembley. The goal helped knock the Scots out of the Euro 1996 tournament in England. Alan Shearer also scored in the famous English victory.

A lot has been made about the cancellation of a Hall of Fame dinner to induct him into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. A lot was also made about the reasons behind it. Gascoigne has struggled with mental health issues for years and his mental condition was cited as a reason he was being refused entry.

Many sportspeople and ex-teammates have also attacked the move. But we were yet to hear from the man himself before now.

Gazza also feels love and support of the People

Gazza also took the time to thank Rangers fans for their continued support. Gascoigne said he “loved the support of the fans” and also that “only one Hall of Fame matters” – the Rangers one.

There is no doubt that Paul Gascoigne did enough in Scottish Football to merit a place in the Hall of Fame. Fans were understandably upset he was denied that chance.

But more than anything, people are just happy to see the legend take it all in his stride.
