Former Celtic defender and perennial managerial flop Gary Caldwell has been passing his opinion on Rangers captain James Tavernier this week.
Caldwell managed the marauding right-back during his time in charge of Wigan and claims he let Tav move to Rangers because of doubts over the player’s “mentality” [BBC Sportsound 09/12/19].
Gary Caldwell isn’t the only former Celtic player to criticise Tavernier either. Chris Sutton also described him as a “serial loser” before the final [Daily Record].
Tavernier has come under heavy criticism from the club’s supporters but no-one can deny the shift he put in on Sunday.
Rangers were far-and-away the better side and really only have themselves to blame for not putting Celtic to the sword.
The former Celtic stopper’s comments were also juxtaposed with praise for the right-back, with the former Scotland international describing Tavernier as an “excellent player”.
But it hasn’t stopped Rangers fans berating Gary Caldwell for criticising the Ibrox captain.

It’s been a difficult first half of the season for James Tavernier who has come under fire for high-profile mistakes, penalty misses and his own suitability for the captaincy.
Now it is about winning things and from here on in he must prove that he has the bottle to get things over the line for Rangers.
The time for being the nearly man of a group of nearly men is over. Rangers’ spirited performance against Celtic proves we can take the title to Ibrox.
