As the clocked ticked into three minutes of extra time at Rugby Park this afternoon, it looked like Rangers were about to fail once more against Kilmarnock.
It was far from an inspired performance from the Light Blues but they still controlled vast portions of the game. Yet, after switching off at a set-piece, they found themselves heading for two dropped points.

There was a sense of disbelief in the away end that the Gers could be about to slip up at the first hurdle of a long league season.
That was until Connor Goldson had his say.
The
impressive central defender loves getting involved at the top end of the pitch and stood up when it counted this afternoon.
Despite the best efforts of former Ger Kirk Broadfoot to foul him, he got himself on the end of an inviting out-swinging corner from James Tavernier and headed powerfully home.

The finish caused bedlam in the away end, with players heading for the stands and fans invading the pitch. It also caused quite a stir on social media, with Bears quick to praise the Vice-Captain:

It was Goldson’s fifth goal since joining the club last summer. Time will tell, but it could turn out to be his most important.
Stevie G’s men certainly didn’t make it easy for themselves. What had the potential to be a straightforward encounter when Scott Arfield opened the scoring after 16 minutes, actually turned into a slog.
Yet, while there is plenty to work on going forward, the result was the most important thing. The Gers have the start they were after and they’ll look to kick on from here.
