James Tavernier hasn’t always been universally popular at Ibrox.
When things have went wrong this season, he has taken a lot of flak.

Of course, as captain you are more culpable for collective poor performance than any other.
Yet, some of the criticism has undoubtedly been unfair.
Ironically, the skipper has made a rod for his own back, by being so influential for the Gers.
Since Mark Warburton brought him to Ibrox from Wigan Athletic in 2015, he’s barely missed a match.

Furthermore, he almost plays two positions at the one time. Right-back and right wing.
That he’s now mustered an outstanding eleven league assists this season, shows you just how influential he is in the final third for Rangers, despite his main duties being defensive in nature.
Add to that eleven SPL goals, and you have yourself the most influential player in the division.
Not a bad effort while juggling the captaincy.
Most recently, against Dundee, he had himself a goal and an assist after ten minutes.
Proving himself week in, week out

With those sorts of performances, his detractors don’t have a leg to stand on.
In reaction to Wednesday night’s win, Tavernier took to Twitter.
‘Another three points and a clean sheet last night’, he wrote.
Yet, he also had time to praise his new teammate, Glen Kamara.
The Finnish international scored against his old club to continue his great start to life at Ibrox.
Some Rangers fans reacted to the post, praising the captain’s form and asking the team to push for more.
